Communist Party of India (Marxist) is a national party having a presence in the different Indian states. The election commission of India has certain guidelines to give a party regional or state level or national status.

The party has a nationwide presence but it has a large number of supporters in the states like Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura.

The party came into existence in the year 1964 following the separation from Communist Party of India. The party is a left wing political party.

The party claims to be one of the able custodians of Marxist ideology. The party is well known for its anti-American, anti-capitalism stand and it is one of the important reasons to keep Communist Party of India (Marxist) in latest news.

The party is also well identified for its distinct structure that consists of Politburo (PB), Central Committee (CC), State Committees and District Committees.

In the first tenure of UPA government the party supported the congress lead alliance without being part of the coalition but it took support from the government on the grounds of India-America nuclear deal. This decision of party kept Communist Party of India (Marxist) in latest news in national as well international media.
