New Delhi, Thu, 06 Jan 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 6 (ANI): Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will meet leaders from Andhra Pradesh today to discuss the findings of the Sri Krishna report on Telangana.

The meeting is likely to begin at 11: 30 a.m. The findings of the report will be made public after the meeting. The report talks of the viability of a separate Telangana state to be carved out of Andhra Pradesh.

The meeting of eight recognized political parties in the state including the Congress, TDP, PRP, TRS, MIM, CPI, CPI (M) and BJP - was called after the Committee, that went into the demands for a separate Telangana state and keeping Andhra Pradesh united, submitted its report to the Centre.

Chidambaram will give a copy of the report to representatives of political parties at the meeting and is also expected to discuss the contents of the voluminous report, which runs into almost 800 pages.

However, taking objection to the Home Minister inviting two representatives from each political party, the TRS and BJP decided not to attend the meeting, saying it is a "deliberate

Chidambaram had earlier said that the Central Government would hold discussions with all political parties before taking an "appropriate" decision on the issue of a separate Telangana state.

"The government would consider the report carefully and begin the process of consultations with all political parties before taking appropriate decisions on the report."

Chidambaram further said all political parties and groups have given an assurance that they will maintain peace, harmony and law and order.

The seven-point terms of reference announced by the Union Government on February 12 has mandated the Justice Srikrishna Committee to "examine the situation in Andhra Pradesh with reference to the demand for a separate state of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of united Andhra".

The Government constituted the committee on February 3, nearly two months after it had announced that steps have been initiated for the formation of a separate State of Telangana.

The Telangana region consists 10 northern districts of Andhra Pradesh including Warangal, Adilabad, Khammam, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Medak and Hyderabad. (ANI)
