The party was founded in 1885 by A. O. Hume. Later it developed into a platform for India?s struggle for independence.

After India got independence it become a major political party in the country and ruled for two decades without opposition. For a major part of post-independence period, members of Nehru-Gandhi family has led the party. Indian National Congress has ruled the country for most parts of the time. Indian National Congress has given seven prime ministers to the country. So news about Congress is a routine affair.

In the elections of 2009 the party got second consecutive term and Manmohan Singh again became the prime minister of India. Sonia Gandhi is currently President of Indian National Congress. Hand is the symbol of Indian national Congress. In every elections leaders of Congress appeals to the masses to strengthen the hand that means vote for Congress. As it is ruling party the news of Indian National Congress appears regularly.

In recently held Uttar Pradesh assembly elections the Congress could not perform as expected and Congress has to remain content with few seats.
