BJP mocks UPA Govt.'s economic development plan

New Delhi, Sun, 22 Apr 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday hit out at the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre for hindering the nation's economic growth.

Naqvi said economist Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his cabinet have done nothing for the development of the country. Rather, they have looted public money.

"The economic growth of the country can be seen by an increase in corruption and scams of the federal government. They talk about all round growth, but on ground level the reality is different. Since past eight years, this government has been boasting that they have an economist prime minister and he was working for the economic growth of the country, but nothing of this sort has happened and there is no light of growth anywhere," he said.

Talking about the Kerala Government's demand for the removal of Additional Solicitor General Harin Raval, Naqvi said the UPA condition was sinking due to internal fights with coalition partners and state governments.

"The state government, where the Congress party is in a majority and even their alliance partners are fighting with the federal government. A state (Kerala) is demanding the removal of additional solicitor general by saying that he is not taking care of the welfare of the region. This is a mockery," he said.

Peeved over the additional solicitor general's submission in the Supreme Court on the Italian ship shooting incident, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday said there was no change in the state's stand on the issue and that Additional Solicitor General Harin Raval will no longer appear in the case.

Raval had submitted that the Italian ship 'Enrica Lexie' was not within Indian territorial waters when the two marines aboard it had allegedly shot dead two Indian fishermen off Kerala coast on February 15.

Following the submission, the ruling Congress-led UDF in Kerala found itself in a bind as it contradicted the stand of the government headed by Chandy which held that India has every legal competence to try the case under its law. (ANI)
