New Delhi, Apr 23 (ANI): The Congress Party on Monday said Abhishek Manu Singhvi took the right decision to resign as party spokesman and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice but refrained from commenting on whether he was directed to do so.
Speaking to reporters here, Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said: "Abhishek Singhvi has taken the step on the basis of whatever situation has come to the fore. It is the right step."
Earlier in the day, Singhvi resigned from all official and Congress Party positions, including as chairman of the Parliament's Standing Committee on Law and Justice and as Congress Party spokesman.
In an aggressively worded statement sent via e-mail, Singhvi said that he had been forced to quit because of the controversy surrounding the "distorted CD" sex row, which he described as wishful thinking and pure imagination.
He said that he did not want the controversy to dominate proceedings in Parliament during the remaining part of the budget session, and that was why he was quitting both posts. (ANI)
