Trinamool MPs to pressure government for tax monotatorium

West Bengal,Business/Economy,Politics, Mon, 23 Apr 2012 IANS

Kolkata, April 23 (IANS) With West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee giving a 15-day ultimatum to the central government for accepting the state's demand for a three-year interest moratorium, Trinamool Congress Monday said it will raise the issue in both the houses of parliament in the upcoming budget session.

"The Trinamool MPs of both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha will raise this issue of financial burden on Bengal. All the Trinamool MPs will raise their voice on the floor of parliament against this indifference and injustice towards Bengal...We want interest moratorium," Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, a Trinamool Member of Parliament (MP) said. The second half of parliament's budget session starts Tuesday.

Issuing the ultimatum to the central government Saturday, Banerjee had warned that its "indifferent attitude" could become a "big issue".

Banerjee has also been insisting that since the new government has inherited this huge quantum of debt burden, the central government should find a way to waive these loans or settle the debt.

The Trinamool Congress with 19 members in the Lok Sabha and 6 members in the Rajya Sabha is the second largest constituent of the ruling United Progressive Alliance-II (UPA-II).

Currently, the relationship between the Congress and the Trinamool is going through a rough patch after the Trinamool openly opposed various policies of the central government.
