She proved her inner potentialities during the prime minister ship of her father Nehru and learnt all the things regarding politics and administration. After the demise of her father in 1964 Ms. Indira Gandhi (Nehru) was elected to Rajya Sabha and started direct politics. Immediately after the sudden death of Shastri in abroad, Indira was sworn in as the prime Minister in 1966; thus the burden of the whole country fell in her hands. Simultaneously Ms. Indira Gandhi was a great diplomat, politician and an educationist by the knowledge of which she could manage the country efficiently in the most critical condition. The major achievements of this maiden lady prime minister of India are Green revolution, Nuclear Weapon programme and best foreign policy that she could handle with effort for the betterment of the citizens. As fate was not on her side, in 1977 she was assassinated by her own bodyguards over the conflict with the Sikh community in Punjab.
