Rahul Gandhi visits UP to assess poll disaster

Lucknow, Apr 30 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi arrived here on Monday to take part in a post- Assembly poll review.

Speaking to reporters at the Choudhary Charan Singh airport here, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) Chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi said the party is keen to do well in the upcoming civic polls and added that Rahul Gandhi would like to concentrate on his parliamentary constituency Amethi.

"Winning and losing elections is a part of life. But Rahul Gandhi is of the view that the people should now be taken into confidence. We are preparing for the upcoming civic polls. We will thoroughly strengthen our base. Rahul Gandhi will be visiting his constituency Amethi," said Joshi.

Gandhi is also expected to meet party workers and reassess the party's recent poor electoral show.

The UP Assembly polls, billed as the roadmap to general elections to be held in 2014, witnessed a dismal show from the Congress, with the party winning just 28 of the 403, finishing a lowly fourth. (ANI)
