Unaffected by anti-incumbency BJP-SAD alliance came to power in Punjab. With this historic victory it has become the first coalition government to return to power defying anti-incumbency. The coalition got a thumping victory and won 68 seats (SAD: 49 & BJP: 19) that is 9 more than the majority while congress has to remain content with the 46 seats only. The newly formed Manpreet Badal's Punjab People's Party could not register even a single win and failed to open their account.
The Shiromani Akali Dal led by father-son duo 84-year-old father Prakash Singh Badal and Sukhbir Badal got second consecutive win in the state and raised their number of seat to 56 from the previous 49. Expressing his happiness over the results Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal thanked people of Punjab for their support. He said that the people have voted in the favor of their agenda of peace and development in the state.
This election has raised suspicion about political future of Captain Amarinder Singh in politics of Punjab.
