Opposition flays Modi Govt. for giving clean chit to porn gate lawmakers

Ahmedabad, Mar.26 (ANI): Opposition Congress lawmakers on Monday protested against the Gujarat government after a forensic report cleared two ruling Bharatiya Janata Party legislators of watching pornography during assembly proceedings.

Shankar Chaudhary and Jetha Bharwad had been accused of watching obscene videos on an iPad during a budgetary session on March 21.

Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia raised questions over investigation by the provincial Forensic Science laboratory (FSL) and accused Chief Minister Narendra Modi of influencing the reports.

He demanded repeated forensic investigation by the federal FSL and establishment of a committee to scrutinize the matter.

"Chief Minister has managed to get the fake report from the Gujarat FSL (Forensic Science Lab) and after this particular FSL we released another CD in which one member is watching completely porn material and even who is shooting this particular incident are just giving commentary now or which one is the photographs and how that was. Even then the chief minister is not allowing to take the decision to institute a house committee and to suspend both members," Modhwadia told reporters in Ahmedabad.

The uproar led to the adjournment of the state assembly, with legislators shouting slogans holding banners and placards.

Modhwadia threatened to intensify the agitation if the tainted legislators were not suspended till the decision of the party high command was pending.

"Our demand is to suspend these two particular MLAs (legislators) upto the decision of the house committee, which is still not instituted so till ours are not accepted we would continue to pressurize chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party," said Modhwadia.

The allegations against the Gujarat MLAs (legislators) surfaced weeks after three Karnataka BJP lawmakers were caught viewing pornographic videos on a mobile phone during a state assembly session, which led to their resignation. (ANI)
