New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI): Asserting that development has to reach every citizen of the country, an extremely pleased Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday charged the Congress Party with following negative appeasement politics to woo voters.
"Well, we are happy. But I would rather wait for the final results. Our estimates, I guess are coming close to materialising. It proves one thing that when you are on a constructive campaign mode, without a negative attack on the opponent, and highlighting to the voter that governance is the most important issue. Development has to reach every citizen. If we are able to uplift the last citizen, the poorest of the poor, and by a fair means, transparent method of governance, people will appreciate it. They saw it in Bihar, they saw it many states where the BJP is in power," said Sitharaman.
"On the contrary, the Congress probably lost the plot by doing a negative appeasement politics increasingly getting into that mold of talking repeatedly about one section only. It is not only as if one section votes, every section votes, every section wants development. So, I think people are now making a message out of this set of elections that they do not believe in this kind of appeasement politics," she added.
The BJP is so far leading in 49 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, 25 assembly seats in Uttarakhand, nine assembly seats in Goa and 63 assembly seats in Punjab along with its ally the Shiromani Akal Dal (SAD). (ANI)
