Uma Bharti attacks Congress for using derogatory annotations

Chandigarh , Sun, 22 Jan 2012 ANI

Chandigarh, Jan 22 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Uma Bharti, here today, attacked the Congress for using derogatory annotations against opposition party leaders.

While addressing mediapersons, Bharti slammed the Congress General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi, for calling her 'outsider' and commented over his contesting the elections from Uttar Pradesh, instead of Delhi.

"This time the Congress has used derogatory language everywhere. In Punjab, Amarinder Singh is saying words like massacre. In Uttar Pradesh, Indira ji's grandson and Rajiv ji's son is saying words like Pootna and outsider. He himself has forgotten that he is from Delhi and he has gone to Uttar Pradesh for contesting elections," said Bharti.

On Friday, leader of Uttar Pradesh state unit of Congress, Pramod Tiwari had warned Bharti to adopt caution before uttering anything against Gandhi and compared her to Pootna, a female demon killed by Hindu deity lord Krishna as per the Indian mythology.

Furious over the remark, Bharti lashed out at Congress leaders for calling her an outsider, without recalling the background of their party chief Sonia Gandhi.

Referring to Rahul Gandhi's remarks that 'an elephant in Lucknow eats up all government funds', she said Congress was responsible for 'the elephant's fattening', as it has been lavishly sending funds to Uttar Pradesh.

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven-phases in the months of February and March this year to elect 403-members to the legislative assembly.

Bharti affirmed that Akali Dal-BJP's coalition government would again make a comeback in Punjab.

"We will break the old trend in Punjab and the alliance of Akali Dal and Bharatiya Janata Party will win in Punjab. Because people are more connected to development, rather than the party," said Bharti. (ANI)

Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year. As per the schedule planned by Election Commission, the state assembly poll in Punjab would be held on January 30.

In Punjab, the main battle is expected to be between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and the Congress party. (ANI)
