London, Mar 10(ANI): Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe has said if he qualifies for the London Olympics then he will go there to win, and not just to make numbers.
Thorpe said he has done lots of hard work lately to achieve good results, but it was 'bloody frustrating' for him to not get the desired results.
"It's been bloody frustrating that I've trained the house down. I thought it would translate into good racing and results. It hasn't happened and that has tested my mental strength and patience. I truly believe my hard work deserved better. I'm hoping my racing mojo returns for Adelaide," Thorpe wrote in his column for Fox Sports.
Thorpe said he has no idea whether he would qualify for the London Olympics or not, but if does, he wants to swim fast.
"If I make London, I don't want to just make up the numbers. Exactly a week from now, hopefully I'll be swimming the final of the 200m freestyle in Adelaide," Thorpe said.
"I haven't got a clue how I'll go, but if I qualify for an individual spot or relay squad, I want to swim fast in London. I'll swim the 100m freestyle at the trials and obviously our depth in this race is staggering," he added.
Thorpe said at no stage did he contemplate taking retirement from the sport, and is hoping to make it to the London Olympics.
He even has the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics in his sights.
"I've certainly questioned whether all this is worth it but at no stage have I seriously wanted to walk away from the sport. Rio in 2016 is not beyond the realms but it's simply too far away to declare I want to try and qualify for the next Games," he said. (ANI)
