South Korean steel giant POSCO is the second largest steel maker in the world that signs a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the govt. of Orissa to establish biggest steel industry in the state at the cost of Rs 52,000 crore, the biggest FDI India have ever got. It has already acquired the status of SEZ for free trade in the country and recommends in the MoU to send 50% of its iron ore to South Korea by its own port that it will erect at Jatadhari, near Paradeep where it is going to establish its steel industry. Ministry of Environment, govt. of India has granted it the environmental clearance and iron ore grant is on its way. But the biggest challenge that it confronts in promoting the project is the protest of the local people on the land of whom it is going to constitute its plant. The regional people have gone berserk in its proposals as it compels them to go out of their own fertile land in the undeserving price. The consequence of which is that the project is forced to stay 0% in its progress even after 4 years of its signing the MoU due to horrible disapproval and decry of the local mass.
