The International Atomic Energy Agency, an autonomous international organization was constituted unanimously on July 29, 1957 by the UN General Assembly with the objectives to promote and energize peaceful and positive use of nuclear energy restricting its utilization for the military purposes worldwide. IAEA is headquartered at Vienna with its 154 members from throughout the world. It has 3 bodies for policymaking and operationalising it among its members in order to salvage the world from the havoc of nuclear energy if it is misutilised. The Board of Governors and The General Conference pass the recommendations to the Secretariat which is headed by Director General who is authoritative to pass the recommendation to make it a law. The IAEA scrutinizes the pertinent function of Nuclear energy, nuclear safety and security as well as its use in a creative way for the welfare of human being and not in a destructive manner. For the safeguarding of nuclear energy and its use, the organization and its present Director General Mohammad EI Baradei were awarded Novel peace prize in 2005.
