United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime is a premier agency of the United Nations coming in to existence in the year 1997 as the combination of two United Nations agencies United Nations International Drugs Control Programme as well as Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Division at the Office of United Nations in Vienna. The UNODC is injected with the liability to coordinate, cooperate and carry out the drugs control activities of the United Nations. The drugs and its use as well as abuse has been sky rocketing in the world today thus bringing it on the attention United Nations has started this initiative by the UNODC to bring the Negative effects of Drugs under control. Use of drugs is one of the prime causes for the wide spread of some incurable diseases like AIDS thus keeping mans life on the edge of frustration and desperation. In this way UNODC is meant to assist in the comprehensive work of the UN to carry out operations against illegal trafficking, corruption, excessive utilization of drugs, crime as well as delinquents, terrorism and various other inhuman acts. The agency is funded by many voluntary organizations and private bodies. Antonio Mario Costa is the secretary general of UNODC.
