TATA Motors to develop Electric Car

To blunt the sharpness of rising prices of fuels, several vehicle makers are now developing alternative technologies that can be available easily and affordable with eco-friendly concept. In this move, Tata Motors is also developing an electric car eyeing the current environmental and economical scenario.

Ratan Tata, the Chairman of Tata Group on Thursday at an annual general meeting (AGM), announced that Tata Motors is going to develop an electric car (e-car) with the collaboration of Norway based company for that country, which is likely to roll out there in this year, while in other markets it would run on the road somewhere in the next financial year.

Ratan has also announced about another project of Tata Motors to come up with an energy efficient compressed air car for France with the French car making company that would be completely pollution free.

Describing about the e-car, he said, “We are looking at the creation of an electric car. This financial year we are doing it for Norway and we hope to launch it in other markets in the next financial year.”

While commenting on the second project, he stated, “We have been working with a company in France. It will be completely free of pollution. It is a technology, which could have some promise. It may happen. It may not happen.”

In the move to make the world eco-friendly, Tata Motors is also working with Thai government for developing an eco-friendly car ‘eco-car’, which would be more energy efficient than Tata’s much awaiting ultra-small ‘Nano’ car, as per his statement.

Mr. Tata also informed about his future project of developing ‘Hybrid’- a blend of Oil and Gasoline or Oil and Electric or Gasoline and Electric engine – car and Ace-Electric version (EV) for the US market with teaming with US auto major Chrysler in 2009.

Ratan Tata, however, did not reveal the selling prices of electric cars, but auto experts believe that it would be more expensive than patrol or gasoline vehicles and will need different infrastructure like charging stations.

To brawl the spiralling prices of fuels and making environment more eco-friendly, car making companies are developing hybrid, electric and eco-friendly cars with an aim to reduce emission and to a great extent to get away from oil reliance. The Electric cars have already gained popularity in US market and it is also expected to be popular in rest of the world.
