Ahmedabad, Jan 5 (ANI): The Gujarat Congress, which is presently on its ambitious 'Sardar Sandesh Yatra' as part of its campaign for the state assembly polls due in December 2012, on Thursday accused the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the state of misgovernance.

Congress leader Bharat Singh Solanki slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Gujarat for obstructing the development work, and added that the state government failed to pay heed to the plight of the common man.

"The way the present condition of Gujarat is, the way injustice is being done to the common man of Gujarat, only a few industrialists are reaping the benefit in the name of development and the progress of the common man of Gujarat is being obstructed. The problems of common man in the state are rising day by day," said Solanki.

"The Gujarat State Congress Committee is taking out rallies across Gujarat to throw light on these issues. We are trying to awaken the people of Gujarat and this is also the preparation for the forthcoming elections," he added.

Solanki further said ongoing campaign by his party would expose the double standards of the BJP in Gujarat.

"The people are aware of the double standards of Bharatiya Janata Party. So, we are fully hopeful and we are receiving good response. We still have time for elections and as the time will pass, we will start receiving strong support from the people," he added.

The rally, which is titled 'Sardar Sandesh Yatra', is named after former Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

The rally, which began on January 2, will pass through different parts of the state and will culminate on January 13.

The rally will pass through 160 assembly constituencies as the Congress party leaders aim to get in touch with the people directly ahead of the Gujarat polls. (ANI)
