Ahmedabad, Nov.13 (ANI): Founder-President of the Janata Party (JP) and petitioner in multi-billion telecom scam case, Subramanian Swamy, views Rahul Gandhi, scion of Nehru-Gandhi family that controls the federal ruling Congress party as a Buddhu (nincompoop).
This was his response to questions from mediapersons during an informal chat at Ahmedabad on Saturday.Q.: Tell us in one line what is your opinion about Rahul Gandhi?
A.: He is a Buddhu (nincompoop); that is the statement," Swamy told reporters in Ahmedabad.
He also questioned veteran social activist Anna Hazare's hesitancy to seek support from the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the radical Hindu outfit in the crusade against corruption and nepotism in public life.
Swamy mentioned that the late Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Lal Bahadur Shastri had lauded the positive roles of RSS during the wars of 1962 and 1965 against China and Pakistan, respectively.
Reportedly, Swamy was known to be an active member of the RSS when he was arrested in 1975 after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had imposed Emergency in the country,
"The RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, the radical Hindu outfit) has led from the front in every movement. It was in the forefront against the Emergency. When war broke out against Pakistan (China) they worked so much that Jawaharlal Nehru allowed them to participate in 1963 Republic Day parade. In 1965, Lal Bahadur Shastri praised them. Leaders like Jai Prakash Narayan acknowledged their contribution. I don't know why Anan Hazare is hesitate to take their support," added Swamy.
However, he refused to comment on whether Gujarat Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi is a prime ministerial material or not.
"If there are 250 persons capable of becoming Prime Minister, then it is a healthy sign for the safety of our democracy. I am no one to decide it. I personally know Modi (Chief Minister of Gujarat state, Narendra Modi). I admire him. He is a very good person. But who am I to certify whether he is a Prime Ministerial candidate or not," Swamy added.
An economist and visiting professor at the Harvard University, Swamy who was a cabinet minister during the 90s, has filed cases against former telecom minister Andimuthu Raja, who has been arrested, and Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram for their alleged roles in the 2G spectrum allocations scam.
