Ralegan Siddhi (Maharashtra), Oct 31 (ANI): Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has deferred a revamp of the core committee of the anti-corruption movement, which has come under the scanner in the wake of a slew of bungling and irregularities, till it formulates a governing Constitution.
The decision came after a meeting of 'Team Anna', comprising Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan and Kiran Bedi in Hazare's native village of Ralegan Siddhi on Sunday.
Hazare, who is still on a self-imposed 'vow of silence', presented a written statement, which was read out by Kejriwal to mediapersons.
Kejriwal, Bedi and Bhushan had gone to Ralegan Siddhi to brief Hazare about the core-committee's meeting in Ghaziabad.
The statement of Hazare indicated that the team would soon be formulating a Constitution that would define the roles of the revamped core and working committee. It would also include steps against those members who commit mistakes.
According to the statement, until the constitution is created, the present core committee would continue to lead the movement.
"In the future there will be formulation of a constitution for the movement. The decision on the members of the core committee, the working committee and their character credibility will only be reviewed after the formulation of the constitution. And after that if any member commits a mistake, then we will take action according to the constitution. Till the formulation of the constitution the present core committee will continue," said Kejriwal, reading out from Hazare's statement.
Hazare also blamed the Congress party for maligning the members of Team Anna in an effort to derail the anti-corruption movement.
"Some members of the government and Congress party are trying to malign the movement by placing false accusations on our members. This movement is the movement of 1.2 billion people. By defaming some people, this movement of the people will not be derailed. Some people are trying to break our team, but 'Team Anna' is resolute and nobody can break us," he said.
Meanwhile Kejriwal said the government was also trying to defame their anti-graft movement for having leanings with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS).
"This has become the policy of the government to relate anyone who speaks against corruption to RSS, anyone who speaks in villages, to declare them as Naxalites (Maoists-left wing extremists). And by making such excuses they think they can overrun any movement. This is completely wrong. If the government makes an effort to bring out a strong Lokpal that would be much better, rather than give colour or party names to the movement," he added. (ANI)
