Biden denies calling Tea Party Congress members 'terrorists'

Washington, Tue, 02 Aug 2011 ANI

Washington, August 2 (ANI): US Vice President Joe Biden has denied reports that he referred to Tea party linked congress members as 'terrorists' during the a debt meeting.

"I did not use the terrorism word," Biden told CBS News.

According to Politico, Biden during a closed-door meeting with House Democrats about the deal to raise the debt limit, agreed with an argument by Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania, who reportedly asserted that 'we have negotiated with terrorists'.

Biden reportedly also said, "They have acted like terrorists".

Biden has now denied reports and said those words did not leave his mouth. Instead, he gave lawmakers the opportunity to 'vent' about the deal.

"What happened was there were some people who said they felt like they were being held hostage by terrorists," Biden said.

"I never said that they were terrorists or were not terrorists, I just let them vent," he added.

The vice president's office said the 'terrorist' word should not have been used during the meeting, The Herald Sun reports.

"The word was used by several members of Congress. The Vice President does not believe it's an appropriate term in political discourse," Biden's spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff said. (ANI)
