Mumbai, July 7 (ANI): The cultural cell of the Maharashtra unit of the Congress party has written to the President of India, requesting her office to look into security-related issues connected with the Sree Pathmanabha Swami Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
In a letter to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Guru Nair, the vice-chairman of the cultural cell, said: "Security arrangements so far arranged in the premise of temple is not sufficient for the protection of these priceless belongings of God and the state government agencies cannot be competent enough to ensure safety of this treasure."
Highlighting the value of the treasure found inside the temple ( Rs. 1,00,000 crore rupees), Nair said: "These great precious assets belong to the idol at the temple and no government agency has proprietary right over the same. Not only the monetary value of these articles, but also the historical and cultural significance is to be taken into consideration while arranging its safety measures."
He described the property as the "pride of entire nation" and added that heritage wise, it has "invaluable lingering".
He called for the deployment of specially trained personnel from the central paramilitary and defence forces. (ANI)
