Aligarh, July 4(ANI): In what can be seen as a move to challenge Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi has begun a padyatra from Bhatta-Parsaul to Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati Government has denied Gandhi permission to hold a rally in Bhatta Parsaul.
The padyatra is taking place about two months after Rahul was detained for a short while by the BSP Government in Bhatta-Parsaul for opposing police action against farmers during their protests over land acquisitions.
A farmer maha panchayat will be held in Aligarh on July 9, following permission from Mayawati.
The Congress machinery is establishing contact with farmer groups in and around the region where acquisition of land has been a major source of confrontation between them and the police (ANI)
