New Delhi, May 25 (ANI): Union Rural Development Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said that the atrocities committed on protesting farmers in Greater Noida's Bhatta Parsaul village was uncalled for, as farmers were only demanding better compensation for their land.
He said the guilty should be brought to justice.
Minister of State for Corporate Affairs RPN Singh also demanded a thorough judicial enquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, a National Human Rights Commission team visited Bhatta Parsaul village to investigate the alleged violation of human rights by the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police Viplav Kumar led the seven member team.
Four persons, including two policemen, were killed in the clashes and firing in Bhatta-Parsaul last Saturday.
The opposition has flayed the Uttar Pradesh Government for its land acquisition policy while Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who visited the village, accussed the government of unleashing atrocities on its own people.
The farmers have been agitating since January for higher compensation for lands acquired by the state government.
Their demand is that only half their lands should be acquired, while the rest should be handed back to the farmers after development.
They also want 25 percent reservation for farmers in all schemes of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway.
The farmers have also been demanding that the authorities should give 120 square metre plots to landless farmers and a compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 for each acre of acquired land. (ANI)
