West Bengal polls to be acid test for Left Front, says CPI-M leader

Kolkata, Sat, 05 Mar 2011 ANI

Kolkata, Mar 5(ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Mohammad Salim on Saturday termed the forthcoming West Bengal polls as an acid test for the Left Front.

"Every poll is a struggle for the leftists. We struggle not only for polls, but also for issues like corruption, inflation and unemployment, which is going on in the country and also in West Bengal. And if you see in West Bengal there is not only election politics but all parties including opposition need to be active whole year," Salim said.

The CPI-M-led Left Front has been in power in West Bengal for over three decades.

Presently, it is facing a tough challenge from Trinamool Congress (TMC), the main opposition and its ally Congress party.

West Bengal faces state polls in April, along with Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Union Territory of Pondicherry. (ANI)
