Jio announced to increase the charges of yearly plan it offers to the customers, the old prepaid plan’s cost is increased from Rs. 2020 to Rs. 2121.
Since its introduction in the Indian telecom market, Reliance Jio has become the largest network operator. The internet revolution that took place in India was mostly due to Jio's aggressive business policies and market capturing techniques. Time and time again, other telecom brands have failed to give any competition to Jio. Telecom giants like Vodafone, Airtel and Idea are all struggling to keep their customers, as Jio continuous to launch cheaper plans throughout the year. For the past three years, Jio has acquired the most number of users by providing a bunch of prepaid and postpaid plans. Prepaid plans introduced by Jio are cheaper in comparison to prepaid plans of Vodafone and Airtel.
Jio has recently decided to increase the yearly plan it offers to the customers, the old prepaid plan use to cost Rs. 2020, but now it is going to cost Rs. 2121. The reason of this price hike has not been disclosed by the company yet. There has been a few changes incorporated in the old plan, like the validity of the plan has been decreased and now it is only valid for 336 days, instead of 365 days. The new Rs. 2121 plan includes 1.5 GB internet data usage per day, unlimited call to Jio and all other networks and 100 SMS per day. But reducing the plan validity for a significant 29 days is getting seen as a huge drawback by the users. Customers who are opting for this prepaid plan, will also get free access to Jio Cinema and Jio TV. Jio TV streams many live events and shows, and more than 650 channels to watch from.
On the other hand, yearly plan for Vodafone prepaid users would cost them Rs. 2399 and that is for Airtel users is Rs. 2398. Both the plans cost more than Jio, but the available facilities are the same. Though both Vodafone and Airtel, continue to serve the yearly plan for 365 days, and their users definitely see it as a benefit. Vodafone and Airtel users also get to access Vodafone Play, Zee5 and Airtel TV apps. Various TV shows, web series and latest movies are available on these applications. The yearly prepaid plan of Vodafone and Airtel is not much different than Jio's yearly plan, considering Jio's exponential growth in the past few years. Jio has consistently overshadowed other telecom brands in the race to attain more customers, and this has resulted in a polarising condition in the telecom industry. Other telecom brands like Idea, BSNL, Vodafone and Airtel are not doing good business anymore, and their market share has dropped significantly since the introduction of Jio.
The yearly prepaid plan is way better than the monthly prepaid plan Jio offers. The monthly prepaid plan costs Rs. 199, which adds up to be Rs. 2399 for 12 months. Even after increasing the yearly plan to Rs. 2121, there is still a benefit of Rs. 278 that one would get. The revised yearly prepaid plan by Jio is likely to keep the customers satisfied.
