Communist Pary of India-Marxist (CPI-M) genereal secretary Prakash Karat has said that only Left and democratic parties could be an alternative to the UPA and NDA. He said that it is only left who could fight against the nexus of big business, ruling politicians and bureaucrats who are indulged in looting public funds. Karat was addressing 20th CPI-M party congress held at Kazhikode.
On the occasion party general secretary Karat slamed both UPA and NDA and said that it is need of time to strengthen the CPI-M across the country so that it can become a strong alternative.
Commenting on the economic policies of the parties, Karat said that both the UPA and NDA have their economic policies are one and the same.
Talking about the Lokpal bill, Karat said there is nothing to choose between the two.
The eight years of the UPA government have led to unprecedented corruption levels.
An effective Lokpal Bill is needed, but that alone won't be enough.
It is only the CPI-M that has the moral authority to fight corruption and we will surge ahead because we will fight corruption and also seek electoral reforms.
Communist Party of India leader A.B. Bardhan stressed for the unity of the left and said for this our parties have to work together. Unity should be our slogan. I agree that there are differences between us but we have more commonalities than disagreements and a mechanism should be evolved to resolve the issues.(With inputs from IANS)
