N-capable missiles in India's arsenal [To go with India test-fires 5,000 km Agni-V missile, China

New Delhi, April 19 (IANS) India Thursday successfully demonstrated its 5,000-km Agni-V ballistic missile, touted as its key nuclear deterrent against China since it can hit targets such as Beijing and Shanghai. India's nuclear arsenal also include several other missile that are nuclear capable. Here is a look at some of them:

* Agni-I is a 700-km surface-to-surface 12-tonne medium-range ballistic missile that is operational with the Indian Army. It is both road and rail mobile.

* Agni-II is a 2,000-km-range missile weighing 16 tonne. It was among the first weapons to get into the Indian strategic forces arsenal.

* Agni-III is an intermediate-range ballistic missile that can hit targets 3,000 km away. It weighs 48 tonne and is operational with the Indian strategic forces.

* Agni-IV is a 3,500-km range missile that was tested successfully for the first time in November 2011. Its previous avatar as Agni-II Prime, when tested in December 2010, had failed.

* Prithvi-I is a 150-km-range surface-to-surface battlefield missile with a 1,000-kg payload. Prithvi has higher lethal effect compared to any equivalent class of missiles in the world. It is in service with the Indian Army.

* Prithvi-II has a 250-km-range Indian Air Force version with a payload of 500 kg.

* Prithvi-III is a 350-km-range Indian Navy weapon with a 500-kg payload.

* Sagarika is an under-development submarine-launched missile that will have a 700-km range.

These nuclear capable missiles were developed by India as part of its three-decade Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme that was completed in 2010.
