New Delhi, Apr 6 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday met party legislators from Uttar Pradesh to review the causes for the party's dismal performance in the recently concluded state assembly elections.
While talking to mediapersons after the meeting, Congress party legislator Qazi Ali said that all the legislators from the state were asked to explain the cause for party's poor performance.
"All of us were asked about the cause of defeat. My colleagues were also questioned. All of us told him the various reasons according to our respective constituencies. We explained him the reason for debacle and he assured us that adequate action will taken.
"Action will be taken against all those, whether they are in the government or in the organization, who were involved in anti-party activities or tried to cause harm to it," said Ali.
Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who led the Uttar Pradesh state unit of the party during the state polls, said that they would work towards overcoming their weaknesses and would fight the elections to local bodies with great zeal.
"We shall fight the local body elections with a lot of zest. We shall work as the people's guardians. We will work on our weaknesses and will try to rectify them. We shall try to overcome those shortcomings," she said.
During the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, Rahul Gandhi had taken on to himself, to a large extent, the responsibility of reviving the party's fortune in the state.
After leading several road shows and meeting people of various caste and communities, to Rahul's dismay, the Congress was able to capture only 28 out of the 403 UP assembly seats.
The outcome of the polls results put Congress into introspection mode in search of finding answers to the dismal performance in the polls. (ANI)
