Congress takes credit for CBI probe in IPS officer's killing

New Delhi, Tue, 13 Mar 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Mar 13 (ANI): Congress Party on Tuesday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in Madhya Pradesh, and said a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar Singh was possible only because of the pressure imposed by the ruling party.

"What happened in Madhya Pradesh was extremely reprehensible to say the least and if at all a probe has been recommended by the government of Madhya Pradesh it is obviously because they have succumbed to the uproar and they have succumbed to the pressure, which has been generated by the Congress in Madhya Pradesh and other concerned sections of the citizenry," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan earlier in the day said that he has asked the CBI to probe the killing of IPS officer Narendra Kumar Singh.

Chouhan said that he had passed the order on the insistence from the family of the deceased officer.

Singh, who was posted at Banmore as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), was crushed to death under the wheels of a tractor-trolley last Thursday, allegedly by a member of the mining mafia, when he tried to stop the vehicle which was illegally carrying stones at Banmore in Morena District.

The state government had earlier ordered a judicial probe in the matter. (ANI)
