New Delhi, Mar 9 (ANI): Condemning the killing of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Narendra Kumar Singh, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday said illegal mining was rampant in Madhya Pradesh and demanded stern action against the menace.
"My condolences are with the family that has lost its son. Narendra Kumar was a young IPS officer. His wife was a district officer in my area. She had incurred the wrath of a BJP MLA because of which she was transferred out of Rajgarh district," Singh told media here.
Asserting that BJP leaders are involved in this case, Singh said: "Why aren't they auctioned ((Minerals) and given lease?. Who all are involved and have been benefited by this should be brought to book. We will provide all the proof that we have. This should be investigated."
"Mine and BJPs regime should be checked. The leases granted should be compared and checked .One of the channels brought it out last year but no attention was paid to it," he added.
On state home minister Uma Shankar Gupta's remark that this was just an accident, Singh said: " I strongly condemned the most inhuman statement of the state home minister. He (Gupta) should be ashamed for his statement."
Narendra Kumar Singh, who was posted at Banmore as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), had taken on the mining mafia by seizing number of trucks and tractors engaged in illegal quarrying,
The incident took place yesterday afternoon when Singh, who was patrolling the area in his official jeep, noticed a tractor-trolley loaded with stones following which he overtook it and signalled the driver to stop it.
But the tractor driver drove on and knocked down the 30-year-old officer, who was crushed under the wheels. (ANI)
