Ropar, Mar 9 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has disagreed with Sonia Gandhi's remark that the Punjab People's Party (PPP) had weakened the position of the Congress in the recent assembly elections in the state.
Badal said the ' misdeeds of the Congress Party' like inflation, corruption, unemployment and the lack of security in the country, were responsible for the reverses suffered by it . He said the Congress had not made a single contribution to the country.
On Wednesday, Gandhi sought to blame her party's unexpected defeat in Punjab on the newly formed Punjab People's Party floated by Manpreet Singh Badal, former Punjab finance minister and Parkash Singh Badal's nephew.
"The PPP damaged us in 23 seats. More than damaging the Akalis, they damaged us," she said.
The SAD-BJP combine returned to power by defying the expected anti-incumbency factor.
The SAD-BJP combine won 68 of the 117 seats with the SAD securing 56 seats and the BJP 12 seats. The Congress won 46 seats, while others won three. (ANI)
