Parkash Singh Badal will continue as CM of Punjab: Sukhbir

Chandigarh, Mar 8 (ANI): Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday announced that his father Parkash Singh Badal will continue as the chief minister of Punjab.

"As president of my party, we have announced that Shri Parkash Singh Badal will be the chief minister. Now, it's the chief minister's decision to select his cabinet," he told the media here.

Asserting that credibility is the biggest strength of Shiromani Akali Dal, Sukhbir further said the party will continue to do a good job.

Meanwhile, Parkash Singh Badal lauded Sukhbir's contribution in the victory of the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine in Punjab.

"I thank the almighty for giving us such a big win for the second time. I also thank the people of Punjab. People win in a democracy. I also laud the coordination between the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is the President of the Shiromani Akali Dal, made a major contribution.

When asked about what message would he give to Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh following the verdict of the polls, Parkash Singh Badal said: "I wish him good health, happy life and retired life."

As per Election Commission figures, the SAD-BJP combine won 68 of the 117 seats with the SAD securing 56 seats and the BJP 12 seats. The Congress won 46 seats, while others won three. (ANI)
