All parties should accept verdict of polls in sportsmanship spirit: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Mar 8 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh on Thursday said all political outfits should accept the verdict of state assembly polls in a spirit of sportsmanship, as victory and defeat are part of the election process.

Singh also greeted the nation on the auspicious occasion of Holi, the festival of colours.

"I give my best wishes to all people of the country. I wish the year ahead brings happiness and joy to all. All the political parties should accept the verdict of the state assembly polls in a sportsmanship spirit. Victory and defeat goes on in the elections, and this is the most wonderful thing in a democracy," he said.

The verdict of assembly polls in the five states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa brought smiles to the faces of some parties and disappointment to others.he verdict of the Uttar Pradesh polls, which was considered to be the mother of all elections, was in favour of Mulayam Singh- led Samajwadi Party, as it rode on an anti-incumbency wave to dislodge incumbent chief minister Mayawati, who was looking for a clear majority for her Bhaujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Samajwadi Party won an absolute majority by winning 224 seats in the 403-member assembly. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was left far behind with 80 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 47 seats.

Congress won 28 seats. Congress ally RLD won 9 seats, the NCP one, while others have won 14 seats. (ANI)
