Washington, Mar 7(ANI): US President Barack Obama has described the situation in Syria as "heartbreaking," but added that his country's unilateral military intervention would be a mistake.
"The notion that the way to solve every one of these problems is to deploy our military, that hasn't been true in the past, and it won't be true now. We've got to think through what we do through the lens of what's going to be effective - but also through what's critical for US security interests," the BBC quoted Obama, as saying.
He said Syria President Bashar al-Assad would fall like others, but stressed that the US would try to achieve this aim by isolating Syria.
His statement came amid deadly clashes were reported across Syria.
US Senator John McCain called on his country to launch air strikes against Syrian forces.
According to the United Nations, over 7,500 people have been killed due to the ongoing violence in Syria over the past twelve months.
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has said that over 1,500 people, mostly women and children, have crossed the border into Lebanon to escape violence in Syria. (ANI)
