New Delhi, Mar 6 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday said that Congress party was unable to win the confidence of people in Uttar Pradesh and personally took the responsibility for the defeat.
"We were unable to win the confidence of Uttar Pradesh people that we can defeat Bhujan Samaj Party...the defeat is of the organisation, the state leadership and myself. take full responsibility," said Singh.
Congratulating Mulayam Singh Yadav and his party workers for securing victory in the polls, Singh said his party would give full support to Samajwadi Party to uplift the state of Uttar Pradesh.
"I congratulate Mulayam Singh and all his party workers. People have elected them and I believe they will fulfill all their election promises they have made to the public. The Congress party will give its full support them to help develop Uttar Pradesh, to bring out Uttar Pradesh from the state of misery.
"And as a opposition party we will fulfill our responsibility," he said.
The Samajwadi Party (SP) is moving towards a majority in Uttar Pradesh and is likely to form the next government in the state.
As per the latest trends, SP is leading in close to 200 seats. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will remain second despite a loss of over 100 seats in comparison to the 206 it got in 2007.
The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party are fighting for third and fourth place. (ANI)
