Rampur/ Shahjahanpur/ Moradabad, Mar 3 (ANI): Rashtriya Lok Manch (RLM) leader Jayaprada on Saturday expressed confidence that the voters of Rampur will definitely support her party, and added that people of the state will vote for development and change.
An optimistic Jayaprada, who cast her vote in Rampur today, said voters in Uttar Pradesh would take a good decision this time.
"I expect a good result. The people of Rampur have always supported in both good and bad times. This time, I feel that people will vote for development and change and take a good decision," she said.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Jitin Prasad, who cast his vote in the Shahjahanpur constituency of the state, said the Congress Party would perform extremely well in the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls because of efforts put in by Rahul Gandhi.
"The atmosphere is definitely in favour of Congress and there will be surprising results of the elections. The people of Uttar Pradesh will vote in favour of Congress. The elections will be in favour of Congress as Rahul Gandhi has worked hard for it and the people of Uttar Pradesh want to get rid of the corrupt and atrocious government," said Prasad.
Around 11 percent of the voters had exercised their franchise in first two hours of polling for the seventh and penultimate phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls covering 60 seats and spread over 10 districts, which had begun this morning.
Voting began on a slow note today.
Meanwhile, voters in Moradabad were seen standing in a queue outside one of the polling stations, as there was some error in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
"The machine is showing an error. The officials are trying to fix it but it is not functioning. We have been standing in the queue from 6 a.m. in the morning," said Praddep Tomar, a voter.
Voting will continue till 5 p.m.
Over 1.82 crore voters are expected to exercise their franchise in this phase to decide the fate of 962 candidates.
The final phase would cover Bijnore, Moradabad, Bheem Nagar, Rampur, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Badaun, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Lakhimpur Kheri.
The fate of Samajwadi Party's (SP) muslim face Azam Khan, who is contesting from Rampur, would be decided in this concluding phase along with a host of other influential leaders.
A total of 18,927 polling stations have been set up and the Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for this phase.
Over 60 percent polling was recorded in the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly polls on February 28.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major political parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
The first, second, third, fourth and fifth phases of polling occurred on February 8, 11, 15, 19, and 23 respectively. A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March.
The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
