Varanasi, Feb 14 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over her inability to curb rampant corruption.
Addressing a public meeting here on Monday, Gandhi said: "Mayawati said that she has removed corruption. For five years her party reigned and squandered the state and right three months before the elections Mayawati says she is removing the corrupt officials. For five years she organised the crime, supervised her corrupt officials, and before polls declares to punish tainted officials. Now the public is already removing you."
Further asserting that the youth of Uttar Pradesh need to change their thinking, Gandhi said: "The youth of Uttar Pradesh need make Uttar Pradesh stand on its feet without wasting any more time. 22 years have already been wasted."
"It is time to remove the BSP, the BJP and the Samajwadi Party. We are just sick and tired of their drama," he added.
The Uttar Pradesh polls are being viewed as an opportunity for major parties to re-establish their foothold in the country's fifth largest and most populous state.
A new 403-member state assembly will be elected in March. The poll results will broadly indicate trends for the 2014 general elections. (ANI)
