Amritsar, Feb 2 (ANI): A Scuffle broke over allegations of illegitimate ballots during re-polling in Amritsar East assembly constituency in Punjab on Thursday.
The Election Commission ordered a re-polling in the Amritsar East assembly constituency, due to the technical snag that had developed in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
Baldev Raj Bagga, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist, raised objections, as he suspected police officials of forcing people to cast their votes in favour of opposition parties.
Police personnel had to baton charge Bagga when he tried to obstruct the polling process.
Bagga, however, denied the wrongdoings. Instead he complained of harassment by the police at the polling booth.
Congress activist, Sandeep Sareen condemned Bagga's act and demanded appropriate action against him.
In Punjab, the main battle is between the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- BJP alliance and the Congress Party.
All the 117 assembly constituencies of Punjab, the breadbasket of India, went to polls on Monday.
According to media reports, 17,683,559 voters will decide the fate of over a thousand candidates. (ANI)
