New Delhi, Jan 21 (ANI): Congress Party today, roped in Non Resident Indians (NRI) from different countries to campaign in the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab.
Leaving no stone unturned, Congress Party on Saturday flagged off a cavalcade of the Punjab-origin NRIs under a special poll campaign 'Chalo Punjab' from New Delhi to Chandigarh.
Party chairman of foreign affairs department, Karan Singh said that the motive behind organising the event was to secure votes for the party in the upcoming assembly elections.
"The motive will be to gather votes. They (NRIs) will be going and working in all the places where they have their influence, where they have lived and where people know them and ask for votes and make Congress win," said Singh.
Expressing concern over the pathetic condition of the state, Shudh Prakash Singh, Vice President of Indian National Oversees Congress, USA, said they have gathered from far off places to create awareness among the people to vote Congress to power in the state.
"NRIs have come from across the world, from New York, California, England, Norway and Italy. They have come to give a message to Punjabis that if they want development in Punjab then they should vote Captain Amrinder Singh to power because he is against corruption and works for the development of the state," said Shudh Prakash Singh.
Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year, as it will go to polls on January 30. (ANI)
