Ludhiana, Jan 19 (ANI): Ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab, the woollen industry of Ludhiana is catching up with the election fervor as manufacturers imprint party symbols on sweaters and jerseys in large numbers.
Speaking to the reporter on Wednesday Jatin Budhiraja, a manufacturer said that the combination of elections and winters led to the idea of doing these designs.
"Basically we have made these designs keeping elections in mind. Elections were round the corner and season for winter clothes was also going and it was getting very cold also, so, we thought of doing something new through which we could encash the election season," he said.
Manufacturers, for now, are only printing the symbols of Congress Party and state ruling alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Balwinder Singh, a customer said that it was the best possible way to express their support in favour of the party they would like to see in power.
"I like the sweater as it prevents me from cold and also it bears the symbol of my party. I am an ardent supporter of BJP and Akali Dal. They are ruling the state and would continue to rule in future as well," Singh said.
Punjab is one of five states where elections will be going to take place this year, along with Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Goa.
As per the schedule planned by Election Commission of India, the state assembly poll in Punjab would be held on January 30.
In Punjab, the main battle is expected to be between the state-ruling alliance of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- BJP and the Congress. (ANI)
