Gurdas Badal vows to generate employment for youth in Punjab

Bhatinda, Wed, 18 Jan 2012 ANI

Bhatinda, Jan 18 (ANI): Gurdas Badal, the younger brother of Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, who is contesting election against him in Lambi assembly constituency falling under Muktsar district, has assured the locals of bringing about development and generating employment opportunities for youth, if assured of a clear win in the upcoming assembly elections.

"The first preference would be given to education; also the people are dying because of the unavailability of medical facilities. So, we would set up a hospital for them. We would create employment opportunities for the young boys who are educated. Factories would be established. We will work on such issues," Badal said.

"Development can only be seen when every child is educated in the village, if any factory is established, the people are employed but no such thing has happened here. They (leaders of the ruling party of northern Punjab state) are saying that they have done so many things for the people but we cannot see any development," he said.

Lambi assembly seat has gained popularity as Badal brothers would be contesting in the election as rivals from the same constituency.

Recently, Gurdas Singh Badal, supposedly a close associate of Prakash Singh Badal, changed the party as his son Manpreet Singh Badal disassociated himself from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and formed the People's Party of Punjab (PPP).

Badal brothers are at loggerheads against each other.

Punjab is one of five states due to hold elections this year. As per the schedule planned by Election Commission, the state assembly poll in Punjab would be held on January 30.

In Punjab, the main battle is expected to be between the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)- Bharatiya Janata Party alliance and the Congress party. Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab and son of Prakash Singh Badal, heads the SAD. (ANI)
