Roorkee, Jan 17 (ANI): With assembly polls in Uttarakhand right around the corner, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday asked people to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government from the stateddressing an election rally here, Gandhi said: "If you want to save the environment of Uttarakhand, its natural resources from being looted, if you want the common man to lead a happy and convenient life, if you want to get back your honour, rights and the real Uttarakhand back, then changing the chief minister is not the only way, you need to change the government as well."
Sonia Gandhi also claimed that whatever development is visible even now in Uttarakhand was carried out in past by the Congress.
"We have always taken special care of the development of Uttarakhand. Whatever development you see in the state is the work of the Congress government," she said.
Sonia Gandhi promised that if the Congress Party was voted to power then farmers would get correct sugarcane prices.She also announced that computer education would be started in Madrasas, besides ensuring that Haridwar and Hemkund get separate budgets.
Emphasizing that the Congress Party is aware of the problems of the people in Uttarakhand, Sonia Gandhi said that the party manifesto for the state has a number of plans to bring back the state on development track.
The state's ruling BJP government has been marred by corruption charges that led to the eviction of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank as chief minister. His post was taken over by Khanduri, who had the unenviable task of cleaning BJP's image before the polls. (ANI)
