Rajnath Singh denies links to Ramdev's attacker

Dehradun/ Kanpur , Sun, 15 Jan 2012 ANI

Dehradun/ Kanpur, Jan 15 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajnath Singh on Sunday denied links to yoga guru Baba Ramdev's alleged attacker Kamran Siddiqui.

"I do not have anything to say. I have seen that the photograph has appeared. It may be that someone came to welcome me or came to be a member of Bharatiya Janata Party and I do not appoint members. I was the party's national president, so what happened and how, I cannot comment on it," Singh told the media in Uttarakhand's Dehradun city.

"The character certificates of all those people who accepted the membership of Bharatiya Janata Party should be checked. But I can assure that in Bharatiya Janata Party if someone indulges in any misdeed, which is not in favour of the society, then the law should penalise him. Bharatiya Janata Party will welcome every order of the court. We have never and we will never try to defend anyone," he added.

Rajnath Singh's remarks came after a photograph of him along with Siddiqui appeared in the media.

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress Party blamed BJP for orchestrating the attack.

"The people of India should seriously understand the intentions and how efforts are being made to spoil the country's harmony and that somebody is being targeted," Union Coal Minister and Congress leader Sriprakash Jaiswal told the media in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur city.

"Communal forces include Bharatiya Janata Party and RSS, who else? Who else is there? These are the communal parties that try to tarnish the harmony in our country," he added.

Black ink was thrown on Ramdev during a press conference in New Delhi on Saturday. (ANI)
