Need for solution to end water accumalation in residential areas: Walia

New Delhi, Nov.24 (ANI): Delhi Urban Development and Finance Minister Dr. A.K. Walia today underlined the need of finding a permanent solution to the problem of accumulation of water at various places across Laxmi Nagar, Ramesh Park on other side of M.B. Pushta Road.

 

He also made it clear that a feasible solution is a must otherwise a number of colonies came up across M.B. Pushta Road will continue to remain in danger. Dr. Walia today took a round of Yamuna river bed opposite Ramesh Park in trans-Yamuna M.B. Pushta Road in the backdrop of a building collapse which resulted in around 70 casualties. He was accompanied by a number of senior officers from Central Ground Water Board, I and FC Department, DJB, DDA, PWD and MCD.

 

Dr. Walia visited various pockets where accumulation of water near M.B. Pushta Road is a cause of concern.

 

It was stated that accumulated water has some what receded after installation of two pumps though the level of accumulated water is still alarming as fear of recurrence of incident of building collapse is still hovering. He instructed the I and FC and CGWB to act swiftly to chalk out an urgent plan to overcome accumulation of water as it is resulting in increase in ground water level in colonies where basements are getting damaged and cracks have become visible in the buildings.

 

A suggestion to construct a small temporary drain to flush out water into river Yamuna was also discussed.

 

Dr. Walia stated that he has taken up the issue at highest level so that a feasible solution could be arrived at the earliest. Further due to unprecedented rains and heavy flow of water in river Yamuna after a few decades water level in trans-Yamuna area has gone up from 40-50 feet to four to five feet.

 

He also stated that other colonies in front of M.B. Pushta Road are not facing such situation as water accumulation in river bed near pusta has not taken place. Hence, it is essential to overcome situation of water accumulation in river bed at various places to ensure safety of people and buildings.

 

Dr. Walia asked the MCD to expedite their ongoing survey and encourage people in getting their plan sanctioned before starting construction as structural stability has become crucial in the backdrop of recent mishap.

 

Dr. Walia also stated that he has been getting complaints about failure of sewerage system and caved in roads under his constituency. He has been insisting on preparation of an action plan by DJB.

 

He visited Priyadarshini Vihar, C-Block Laxmi Nagar and Vikas Marg near Swasthya Vihar where a big portion of roads have caved in due to overflooding of sewerage lines.

 

There are other points like Aram Park, Parwana Road, Rasheed Market and D-Block, Shakarpur where caved in roads are causing inconveniences to people apart from health hazards.

 

It has also come to the notice that similar situation is also prevailing in other nearby assembly constituencies. Dr. Walia noticed that there is a fear of more instances of caved in roads in the colonies.(ANI)
