Broad urges England to "continue momentum" for series win against Proteas

Durban, Thu, 31 Dec 2009 ANI

Durban (S.Africa), Dec. 31 (ANI): England fast bowler Stuart Broad has urged his team-mates not to waste the opportunity they've built up by letting South Africa back into the series next week.

Broad, who took 4-43 in the South African second innings to ensure an innings victory for his side, was quoted by The Mirror as saying: "It is very important to continue our momentum now. It is a very similar to the Ashes in how it has gone so far. We hung on in the first Test and then won this one."

"Now we've got to keep it going. We must not look too far ahead. We need a good start in the first session of the next Test in Cape Town," he added.

He added: "I am always looking to learn. I looked at footage of how Shaun Pollock picked up his wickets over here and saw that he did not always have the seam straight up. So I've been trying to make the ball wobble a bit more.

"In this match I watched Morne Morkel bowling. He was their most dangerous bowler and I tried to do what he was doing."

South African skipper Graeme Smith suffered his first-ever innings defeat in 80 Test matches and was visibly upset by his team's lightweight resistance during their second innings.

Smith said: "It's important to have a wake-up call. We were outplayed and it just wasn't good enough, but it was one collapse and, as disappointing as it is, I'm not a big believer in calling for mass changes." (ANI)
