In the year 1833, the British colonists claimed their control over the islands and ultimately they established a naval base here. The Terrain of Falkland Islands largely consists of rugged mountainous ranges and mostly the islands have rocky and hilly topography. Also, some areas comprise marshy plains receiving a heavy amount of seasonal rainfall. Mostly the island areas are used as pastures for sheep.

The Atlantic Ocean surrounds the islands and thereby the climate of the islands is greatly influenced by this. The climate remains humid and temperate most of the time. The average temperature remains at 13 degree Celsius while receiving an annual precipitation of around 24 inches in Stanley, the capital city of the islands.

Agriculture forms a significant part of the economy. Sheep farming and fishing are the main contributors to the economy along with considerable amounts of oil that is exported to some countries. Tourism also forms a large source of income specifically eco-tourism. Besides this, it also receives an economic boost owing to the presence of British military.

Culture and Cuisine of Falkland Islands :

The Falkland Islands culture corresponds to the British culture. Though it includes the influences of Spanish, French, Portuguese and Chilean culture the British culture remains predominant, thereby, English language is their official language. The natives have brightly decorated houses along with flawless trimmed gardens. The Falkian literature is greatly influenced by other cultures and it has a very little of its own literary works.

A typical Falkian dish includes fish fillets, the seafood salads and the Sea Trout. Pertaining to its remote position the inhabitants largely consume the local produce, which includes lamb, mutton and a number of veggies. Much of its cuisine resembles the British heritage.

Tourist Sites in Falkland Islands :

Stanley, the capital city of Falkland Islands is strategically located on a north-facing slope and it gets maximum sun exposure.
