After imposing ban on smoking and junk foods, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, the Union Health Minister, is mulling to ban boozing in the wake of recent stats of health ministry that highlights the average age of alcohol in India has been dropped as below as 13 years.
He is reportedly considering to introduce a comprehensive national health policy to regulate the availability and consumption of alcohol, and may curb the falling line of boozers.
Ramadoss is also against false advertising of fairness cream which claims to make anyone fairer within few days of its use without having any solid proof.
‘This needs to stop. They cannot say within one week you will be white ….. They have to have scientific evidence,’ Ramadoss said by adding that he has written to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry seeking strict actions to curb those false claims by the manufacturers.
Commenting on rising trends of boozing, Ramadoss said that his Ministry would soon introduce a national health policy as the consumption of alcohol has been increased multiple folds in recent years. The guidelines are being drafted, he added.
According to media reports, the guidelines can be illustrated with features like timings of opening and closing of alcohol shops, re-numbering of dry days by including next days of pay days, cracking down on surrogate advertisements, distance of alcohol shops from educational institutions and a uniform age across the country to allow drinking.
However, any official confirmation about the guidelines is yet to come.
