The 210-MW unit at the Amarkantak Thermal Power Station in Anuppur district of Madhya Pradesh was synchronised on Monday. The Union Minister of state for Commerce and Power Jairam Ramesh along with State Power Minister Gauri Shankar Shajawar were present on this occasion.
Addressing to the staff, officers and team of developing the thermal power project under Madhya Pradesh state government, the Union Minister annoyed over being delayed in finishing the project at scheduled time. He infuriated over the slow progress in work and expressed his anger quoting, “It would take another four month to come in full commercial operation.”
The minister also expressed his anguish over the delay in another power project of Sanjay Gandhi Thermal Power Station; a 500 MW unit at Birsinghpur in Umaria district is yet to come into full operation though its four 210 MW units are already in function. Earlier it was declared ‘commissioned’ in June 2007.
“BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited) had assured me to begin the power station as full commercial operation by mid-August 2008, but it is still waiting to come into full commercial operation.” he angered. “This makes it all the more urgent and important to change the present definition of ‘commissioning’,” he said.
However, he appreciated the efforts of Narmada Hydro Development Corporation, which was set up in August 2000 for completing the Omkareshwar Project and in just nearby three and a half years, it has completed the project that is a record.
Amarkantak Power House Station has already running 2 units of 30 MW and 2 units of 120 MW while its 210 MW unit was synchronised on Monday. It is the part of Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited (MPPGCL).
Minister Jairam Ramesh has stressed over the urgent need for reinvigorating the renovation and modernisation programme of power plants in a view not only to increase plant load factors but also to increase efficiency measured in terms of heat rates.
Recalling to National Thermal Power Corporation, a national power generating company, the Minister said that NTPC has established 3260 MW of generating capacity at Vindhyachal in Sidhi district (6*210 MW + 4*500 MW), which is the largest capacity of power house at one single location established so far in the country.
Recalling to Reliance, Minister said, “Reliance Power is developing a 4000 MW ultra mega power project at Sasan in Sidhi district of MP with the collaboration with state government that is likely to start soon. Besides, Reliance Power is also developing a 4000 MW ultra mega power project at Krishnapattnam in Andhra Pradesh that is at a very advanced stage of finalisation.”
‘Another 4000 MW ultra power project at Mundra in Gujarat is developing by Tata Power and its boilers have been supplied by the South Korean company Doosan and the turbine-generator sets by Toshiba, while a project of making Ultra Mega power project at Tiliaya in Jharkhand will be begin soon and in this regard, a letter of intent will be issued soon,’ as per Union Minister Ramesh informed.
