After launching ‘My Web 2.0’, an enhanced search module of search engine and Yahoo! Search Marketing Platform for advertisers, Yahoo! India has introduced a new service Yahoo! Local on Thursday for providing more and deeper information of the local for the locals at free of cost.
Initially this new ‘beta’ service has been launched in testing mode only at India’s four Metro cities Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, but later it can be extended to all major cities after assessing the response of the service, as per sources said.
Yahoo!Local available at local.yahoo.com provides the wider and deeper information like city guides through maps and directions, business listings, local news and events, and current movies running in the city’s cinema halls or multiplexes.
Besides, users can also get the listings of 300 services under the category listings like Automotive, Computers & Electronics, Education, Entertainment & Arts, Food & Dining, Government & Community, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Legal & Financial Services, Professional Services, Real Estate, Recreation & Sporting Goods, Retail Shopping, and Travel & Lodging.
The famous and renowned restaurants, pubs, shopping malls, hospitals, schools, tailors, banks, health and fitness, 24-hour pharmacies and many more can be found in all 300 listing categories.
Introducing this new service, Head of Audience, Yahoo! India Gopal Krishna said, “Continuing to execute on our big bets, Yahoo! India Local (Beta) reiterates our strategy to be the leading starting point on the web, by providing the most relevant and compelling experience for local needs.”
Informing that Yahoo!Local has been developed by joint team of Yahoo! India and Yahoo! India Research & Development team, Krishna said, “With this innovative product, we are trying to make the web more useful, engaging, interesting and local to our users.”
After US and UK, India is the third nation, where this service has been introduced, informed Gopal.
Moreover, users can also make weekend plan, Get Online notice, find any address from the Yellow page link, read local blogs, add Yahoo toolbar, install search widget, Browse by City/ State, share and download information via SMS and e-mail by integrating web and mobile, find people, local shops and services in Yahoo!Local, an innovative service.
The feedback is also be submitted in the site besides writing reviews, leaving footprints, marking businesses on the map, adding listings or events on Yahoo! India Local at free of cost.
For the local businesspersons and shopkeepers, it may prove vital, as any shopkeeper or service provider can add its address in the giving business category. The users can look for the nearest available services and their providers through using this service, as per Yahoo official said.
Since the beginning of this year, the major web giants are trying to be more commutative and interactive by providing several ‘desi’ version of their services to attract more and more customers and traffic.
Google has launched Google local in its map service, while YouTube, the subsidiary of Google tool has also launched the Indian version of YouTube service in last month. MySpace, a famous global social networking site had also launched the Indian flavour of its popular networking service to enhance its reach among Indians. Till now, Yahoo itself has launched more Indian service rather than any others’ in India.
